- Analyze the extent of the damage.
- Before you start operating your phone, understand how much damaged the screen is?
- Did the glass shatter very badly, or is there just a hairline crack?
Step 1: Unscrew the bottom pentalobe screws
- Switch off your phone.
- The second step is to remove the two 6.7mm long pentalobe screws fitted at the bottom of your iPhone, near the charging port.
- After you open the seals, make sure there is no liquid exposure. Opening the pentalobe screw will directly hamper the water safety of your phone.
- Before you unscrew, make sure your phone has a battery below 25%, as there is a danger of explosion in lithium-ion batteries.
Step 2: Paste tape on the cracked screen
- If your iPhone 11 pro max screen has a crack, but still it’s responsive. So, to avoid further damage, stick strips of the tape on the broken area.
- Stick the overlapping strip of packaging tape over the iPhone’s display to completely wrap the screen area. This process will keep big pieces of the glass intact.
- If broken glasses make it challenging to get into a suction cup, fold tape like duct tape into a handle and lift the display with that.
- Make sure to wear protection glass to avoid injuries to the eyes.
Step 3: Apply heat on the bottom edges
- Most of the water-resistant phones have screens held on by an adhesive.
- Apply heat to the phone’s lower edge using a hairdryer or heat gun to loosen the adhesive.
- With the heat’s application, the underneath adhesive will soften, making it easier to remove the cracked screen.
Step 4: Use the suction cup to remove the old screen
- Take a small suction and place it directly to the bottom edge and back of the screen. Press it firmly, so it sticks on the broken screen.
- After the suction cup is affixed on the screen, pull the suction cup to remove the cracked piece.
- You can avail of the suction cup from the cell phone parts store.
- If the screen is badly broken, wrap the screen with tape from both sides.
- A metal ring above the suction cup makes it easier to handle.
- If suction is having trouble sticking to the screen, moisten it slightly and press it more firmly.
Step 5: Gently remove the suction cup
- The next step is to gently pull up the suction cup so that the screen comes along with it.
- You may need to place suction cups multiple times on the screen edges to remove the frame’s glass.
- When the screen starts coming off, move the suction cup to the corners of the screen so you can smoothly pull the screen.
Step 6: Lift the display slightly
- While you’re moving the suction cup atop the screen, make sure you create a gap between the front panel and rear case.
- Insert an opening pick into the gap to create a space.
- The water-resistant adhesive is powerful, so creating an initial gap will require a lot more force.
- If you feel you’re unable to make the gap, apply some more heat to soften the glue and then insert the tool.
Step 7: Re-insert the opening pick
- Insert the opening pick to all four edges of your screen and keep sliding up to separate the screen from adhesive.
- Never insert the pick very far. It may damage the internal components of your phone. Insert only a few millimeters.

- The next step is to open the swinging display up from the left side like a book.
- Do not forcefully remove the display as several fragile ribbons, like cables would still be attached to the iPhone logic board.
- Let the display rest on one side while you work on the components of the iPhone.
Step 9: Remove connector shield

- Remove the screws and lift the connector shield. There may be more than one connector of your iPhone.
- Keep your screws and shield together but separate them from any other screws so that they don’t mix up. It will make reassembling easy.
Step 10: Remove battery connector
- Remove two 1.3 mm long Y000 screws connected to support battery brackets.
- Keep track of all the screws unscrewed from the batteries, do make sure you exactly know which screws have to be fixed where.
- Remove the battery cover bracket.
Step 11: Disconnect the battery
- With the help of a spudger, disconnect the battery connector from its socket on the logic board.
- Be careful while disconnecting as the force may damage the black silicone surrounding board connections.
Step 12: Disconnect the internal components
- Remove 1.3 mm screws logic board screws and remove the bracket using the Y000 driver.
